Fine Arts Parents Association

The Fine Arts Parents Association is a volunteer parent group that exists solely for the purpose of advocacy and support for free public extracurricular music education through Halifax’s All-City Music Programme. Through All-City Music, free weekly programming is available as early as Grade 4, in the Strings Programme, with various choral groups, string ensembles, symphony and jazz bands becoming available to children as they progress through their Elementary, Junior, and Senior High education. FAPA funds scholarships and prizes for music students at the high school level, and provides financial support to the All-City music groups. Check out their website here: https://fapa.ednet.ns.ca
Winterlude is FAPA’s main fundraising event of the year. All profits go directly to support student development in the arts. To have such high calibre programming is a real treasure. To have this programming available without financial barriers through a network of public schools is a rare and remarkable achievement.

As a parent or guardian with a child enrolled in an arts program in any grade at a Halifax school, you are automatically entitled to participate in the activities of Fine Arts Parents Association (FAPA). You are invited to attend FAPA Meetings. FAPA meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm at the music centre. These meetings are generally 1 hour in length.
Volunteers always needed! If you believe in the value of a strong fine arts program in the public schools, FAPA needs your help. If you have a little or a lot of time to give, please contact fapahrm@gmail.com to discuss volunteer options to fit your skills, interest and availability.

FAPA Scholarship Application
The Fine Arts Parents Association (FAPA) administers three scholarships for outstanding music students in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE). They are the Kaye Dimock Pottie Scholarship, the Karen Oxley Kennedy Scholarship, and the Chalmers Doane Scholarship.
Applications consist of an application form, to be completed by the student, and a letter of recommendation, to be written by an Halifax Regional Arts Music (West) or HRCE Music staff member. Students are encouraged to discuss their interest in the scholarships with the staff member, prior to the staff person submitting the letter of recommendation. Students may apply for more than one scholarship, but a given student can only be awarded one scholarship.
Application forms and letters of recommendation (to be sent directly by staff member) should be sent to the Halifax Regional Arts Music (West) Director, Nathan Beeler by April 15th., with “FAPA Scholarship Application” in the subject line. Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee consisting of a minimum of the Halifax Regional Arts Music (West) Director, an HRA or HRCE Music staff member, and a member from FAPA.
